Learn how to play Vorago and explore how a voice is grown, from the ecosystem and the slow events through the cloud, the noise organism, the resonance network, the feedback ecology and the bodies, into the subharmonic engine, the spectral smear and the cavern.
User Manual → Signal Flow Diagram →Vorago is a dark-ambient drone instrument. Every voice is a cloud of partials sunk into a cavern: a noise organism breathes through it, resonant peaks drift across it, feedback loops churn under it, a sub reaches below it, and a small colony of simulated lives wakes partials, peaks, wakes, loops and ghosts in and out of the drone. Hold a note and the sound keeps moving on its own for minutes.
The instrument is played through twelve concept macros rather than a wall of controls: Darkness, Age, Density, Movement, Gravity, Entropy, Pressure, Weight, Fog, Life, Depth and Mass. Each macro sweeps a curated set of underlying parameters, so one knob turns a bright, close drone into a smothered, distant one. Every underlying parameter stays reachable on the seven section pages (Cloud, Noise, Resonance, Body, Sub / Smear, Space, Life).
The window is organism-first: the ecosystem view at the centre shows the live colony — each agent a small life feeding on the drone, drawn as it moves — with the twelve macro rings either side of it. Two rule knobs shape how the colony behaves: Ecosystem Sync sets how strongly the agents fall into step with one another, and Self Affinity sets how much each agent keeps to its own kind rather than mixing.
Be patient. Press a key and keep it held. In most presets the first sound takes several seconds to surface, and the drone then keeps swelling for about two and a half minutes before it is fully there (the default envelope's attack runs 155 seconds). Nothing is broken when a note starts in near silence: that slow emergence is the instrument. Three presets open faster — Sudden Chasm in about nine seconds, Growth Ring over one minute, Slow Bloom over two — and every preset keeps moving on its own for as long as the note is held.
For the same reason, audition with long notes or a sustained chord, not with short stabs, and give a preset a minute before judging it.
process() allocates nothing, takes no locks, throws nothing, and does no I/O42 factory presets ship with the plugin in seven categories, at least three per category. Every preset is generated by a tool that compiles the plugin's own parameter surface, and each one is verified by a long render to make its named feature audible.
Freeze (on the Space page) holds the cavern's current field for as long as it is on. Play a note, let the drone bloom, then engage Freeze: the space hangs on what it has, and the voice keeps singing into it. Disengage Freeze to let the cavern decay again. Cathedral Void is built around this gesture.
